Public Building. Mérida. SPAIN. Under construction 2018-
The renovation of the old Maria Luisa Theater was carried out starting from the basis of the contest, won by Luis Antonio Gutierrez Cabrero in 1993.
While maintaining the original premises, a horseshoe type theater has been generated, intertwined with an orthogonal geometry. The project is also understood as a project of additions, in which a series of volumes, cladded in gilded aluminum, are placed on the rationalist layer of the main facade, and the remains of the later Arab wall. The plinth, however, poses a third stratum, that collects volumes and voids, from the public access area to the direct delivery of goods to the scene. Inside, a series of circular geometries have dialogues with the narrow limits of the site. The theater has a capacity of 500 people, and owns of a second rehearsal room and small representations.
