Urban and landscape design. Mbini. EQUATORIAL GUINEA. Project 2013
‘A fossil footprint’ describes the idea of Mbini’s new boardwalk – a project looking for a simple and attractive solution for the Mbini beach.
We can’t forget the eminent touristical character of the town, nor the natural value of the environment and its magnificent beach.
A budget friendly solution has been developed, which includes the design of the promenade, the introduction of a simple restaurant-viewpoint at the end of the new breakwater and the construction of a small port or marina with leisure areas and services. The project design has to opt for easy maintenance: using durable materials such as cobblestones, in various colors forming spiral drawings, recalling the waves of the sea, simple and robust pieces of urban furniture, that guarantee durability, Led-based lighting to ensure low energy consumption and minimal replacement of luminaires, and the integration of garbage collection systems to facilitate cleaning with small service trucks.
