Public Building. Kaunas. LITHUANIA. Project 2017
Kaunas presents a very balanced percentage between nature and city. Nature is woven into the urban fabric of the city creating an attractive environment of parks and river areas.
The new complex emerges through a simple operation consisting of getting the required space for the complex by lifting the park to generate a roof garden but maintaining the green surface. A new green terrace that looks at the city skyline and is configured as the fifth facade of the complex with great visual presence from the neighborhood of Aleksotas that slightly grows through the hill.
The project is essentially horizontal, dealing between the fast lane of the neighborhood and the calm of the river park.
The new complex is supported by a very austere platform that houses the parking, giving continuity with the existing street and generating a clear dialogue between the different margins (banks) of the river.
From this decision the halls unfold like exempt boxes deployed in the land, unified by a big green roof that recovers the previous river park surface.
