Areas of Opportunity The city of Fez swirls around a controlled chaos of dense spaces and is divided by a linear natural element known as the Fez River These dense areas arise from the need to reduce the temperature in the lower strata of the city through the creation of shadows . Buildings and houses are stacked randomly, separated by tiny streets and ventilated by small patios.
A notable observation is that the Medina has barely any green shaded areas, due largely to its harsh climate conditions.
